How much is Dental hygiene/ teeth cleaning

 1 unit of scaling is 15 minutes spent removing calculus (tartar) from around the teeth above and below the gumline by your dental hygienist. 

1 unit of root planing is 15 minutes spent smoothing the roots of the teeth and removal of dead cementum by your dental hygienist.  This procedure encourages reattachment of the gums to the teeth.

Radiographs (xrays) are typically taken once per year by your dental hygienist to check between the teeth for decay and to monitor bone levels. Much of the cleaning is done below the gumline. It is important for us to have radiographs in order to diagnose oral conditions and create a "map" for tartar removal.

Rubber cup or powder blast technology/dental hygiene services that remove biofilm, remaining plaque and surface stain.

 A varnish applied topically to the teeth by your dental hygienist to help strengthen the enamel

  A solution applied to exposed root surfaces that can significantly reduce sensitivity for up several months

A special type of fluoride treatment designed to be applied to early decay in the enamel in order to help stop it from spreading/growing. A second application, applied 2 weeks later, is included in this fee

Sealant is a coating we can place over deep grooves on molar and premolar permanent teeth which can prevent bacteria from getting trapped in the grooves and causing decay.  Typically applied to children's new adult teeth.  Sealants can be applied during the teeth cleaning appointment

Soft decay is removed by hand and a glass ionomer temporary restoration is placed that releases fluoride to help repair part of the tooth. Further treatment by a Dentist may be required.  Please note that only certain types of decay can be treated with ART

For people who are about to undergo head and neck radiation, for those who have difficulty with their oral healthcare, or experience negative effects of chronic dry mouth, chlorhexadine sealant can help minimize harmful bacteria in the mouth that contribute to tooth decay and gum disease. Recommended application is once every week for 4 weeks and then once every 6 months.
